Under vacuum the boiling point drops, so the liquid evaporates at just over 30C; the vapor is condensed into water and drained. Depending on water quality the reduction rate reaches up to 95%.

The vacuum pump keeps the chamber below -90 kPa so water boils at about 45C and evaporates away, while higher-boiling substances and insoluble solids remain. A rotating scraper inside the evaporation chamber prevents salt and organic buildup.

High-ammonia wastewater boils at just over 30C under vacuum; most ammonia ions stay in the concentrate while the condensed vapor is discharged compliantly. Reduction rate up to 95% depending on water quality.
